When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, near Paris, in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.
Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood (Bois Belleau en français) as “suckers” for getting killed.
Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’
The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic.
Thanks for the gift Washington Post article but I’m not going to sign in! I did want to find out why pickleball is so annoying but I can live without it.
In short, two panels honoring Black US servicemen who fought in the war, and those who built the cemetery and buried those soldiers who still lie there today, were removed by the American Battle Monuments Commission (after they received a complaint from the Heritage Foundation). I have seen articles published in the Dutch press, but to date nothing in the US press (including this NYT article). The thread above contains more details, and is a heartbreaking read. I hope that more Americans are made aware of this disgraceful action, and take action to have it reversed.
Dude. I'm not from your country, but I try to keep up with American news. It has become a real struggle to read your newsletter. There are other topics than Trump and co. to lead with. The constant bagging: it really does come of as "derangement".
I know you feel there's a great many reasons for the constant coverage, that this is essential, but... life goes on man. And it's not all bad, what your current government is doing.

I don’t sign into WaPo either. It’s not worth it if you have to give them any personal information.
I'm sorry I'm a few days late with this comment, but two days before this article was published, I saw this this:
