Hey Dave. I have emailed you once before. Four years ago to be exact to say thanks for your writing, your thoughts and analysis. I'm doing the same again today. In your words, a DEEP DEEP DEEP "note of gratitude" to you for speaking up. It counts.
A kiss is a different thing in Japan than it is here. Couples don't even hold hands. (I'm generalizing, but quite confident in the percentages.) I tought ESL in Tokyo for a couple of years, and at the end of one course I was saying goodbye to the students (in their 20s). One girl who was funny and lively was my favorite. As I said good-bye I leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek and she reacted like I had stabbed her. She jumped back and we both apologized. (They know all the gaijin are crazy and might do anything at any time.) But it reinforced my understanding of the deeply conservative nature of physical attraction over there. There's a reason for the bowing instead of shaking hands.
I hope I won’t have to scream inside my heart this week. Thanks for everything you write, it makes my day

Did you happen to see the letter Michael Moore penned to trump? So much truth.
