After reading " Breaking: Anne Frank Had Genitals: "A Texas middle school teacher has been fired after assigning an unapproved illustrated version of Anne Frank's Diary to her eighth grade reading class." I wanted to share this. I tutor middle schoolers. These are good kids. These kids live on social media. They have unfettered access to you tube and all that it contains, and they go there. Today, one of them mentioned "furrys"? What, what's furrys? They laughed. I said I'll have to look it up. One boy said, "don't do that." It's bad, real bad, horrible. Huh, what the heck is "furrys." Again the one boy said "you really don't want to look it up. It starts with P and ends with N." I was still in the dark. When I got home I looked it up. I did have to get clever with the search. Eventually I discovered is two things. Furrys are people, kids really, that dress up as animals. They identify as animals. Some, maybe most of it may be innocent. The darker side, and what was really being bantered about was Furry P#$r; ie not PG. Yet, lets make sure they don't read Anne Frank, we wouldn't want them to get the wrong idea.
