T’ain’t funny, McGee. For once I agree with the statement about something comprising an existential threat. That is, Altman’s attempt to change the structure and course of OpenAI at its most fundamental level. Reading about OpenA, I previously had some faith that the integration of AI into our daily lives might have come about in a way that was safe and sane. That is, in a way we could trust would be handled in a way that would result in a positive outcome. Instead, with ones like Altman “leading” the way, we have no sense of the direction it will take us other than that it will be implemented in a way such as to maximize the profits of those in charge without thought as to the effect it has on those most affected by its implementation (other than those making a profit from it, of course).

Have you thought about the day when your column is written with the byline it was authored by an AI. Shouldn’t be too difficult, should it? Just scan all the news of the previous few days, and then, having read all your previous posts, organize and compose a piece based on the elements and style contained therein. Actually, that scares me more than just a little.. Although I may not always agree with you, when I respond to something, such as this, the most important thing is the feeling it is going to be read and absorbed by another human being who can relate to the feelings I express.

What amazes me most about the Ukraine/Russia war is that people do not understand that Ukraine cannot give in.
