I was fortunate enough to meet Alfredo ("Grand Pa") the morning after he completed the rim to rim (a few hours before me) and spent some time talking with him and his family. He was kind, humble and energetic. The article does not capture some things that I think are important to understand his accomplishment. The hike is around 25 miles at a minimum, has an elevation change of over 11 thousand feet and was just over 90F in the daytime that day. Perhaps most importantly, he did it with his kids and had a fantastic attitude.
