Dave, I follow you avidly; I also wish a happy birthday to your mom. I am a Canadian, and am so concerned about what is happening to my American friends. It may not be my place, but you have a platform to say and do something; so please consider promoting this. The Democrats are going to peacefully hand over power, because that is the right thing. But as you said, it is not over. Resistance starts now. It probably won’t work, but try to stack the Supreme Court with three more judges. It probably won’t work, but try to stack the Supreme Court with three more judges. Your President has immunity, apparently. Get your current administration to provide the receipts - become a WikiLeaks - and spill all that it has on Trump, the GOP and its connections to Putin. (Doesn’t matter to the voters, I know, because much of this hasn’t mattered; but if the electorate chooses to put a bowl of sh*t on the table, make sure they know it is sh*t). Give the evidence to the states’ Attorney Generals. Spill the beans on whomever amongst your allies is also on Putin’s payroll. Use this information day 1, to start impeachment proceedings. Resist, my friends.
Just called the realtor because I can't do 4 more years of rabid stupidity and willful destruction of this country. I've been puking up my guts since 5am and the only way I will feel safer or valued as a person is to leave USA. Everything I've believed in a an American is ruined by the trump party of hate.
And just wait until the majority of hateful fools wake up and realize he doesn't give a shit about any of them.
So long! I'm unsubscribing from all political media. I'm tired of hearing how we should play nice. I'm too old invest any more emotion or time in an empty echo chamber. Good luck and good bye.
Thank you for this very important message…I needed to hear this, especially about your Mother. Today I am in mourning but then, it’s time to work. We have so much to do.
I agree with Gerrard, seems like a bit of self reflection is in order. Good article in the NYT today about Washington State Democrat Marie Glusenkamp-Perez who won her district (again) in this election cycle. While I may disagree with her about many things, I totally agree with her assessment re: the elitism and condescension of democratic party leaders and operatives. Their dismissal of core working and middle class concerns, like the cost of staples. And Happy Birthday to your Mother! Mine would have been 96 in January, also a Holocaust survivor/refugee.
It seems that a bit of self-reflection is in order. The working class has moved away from Democrats in concerning numbers for several election cycles now, over a decade. Too many Dems look down the blue collar lower and middle income working people of this Country, or have no idea how they live, and their struggles. It's bigoted and racist to think of this broad group as racist and bigoted. Unless and until Dems focus more on understanding and helping middle and lower America, these election wipeouts are just going to continue.
Your newsletter is my primary source of news. Your emails alone have kept my knowledge of current events competent (at times even competitive) for all daily social interactions for just over 2 years now. The shift from a well rounded newsletter to an anti-Trump newsletter started slow, then over the last two weeks it was like COVID. Are you telling me the only news worth caring about it how awful Donald Trump is, or are you gonna get past this and help me keep up with small talk again?
I cannot read any of the news without crying. This win hit hard. I know I should stay and fight the good fight and join the resistance I am not sure I care enough about democracy anymore to try and fix it. I think Christmas 2025 will be lovely - in London. There are many other horizons to explore. I have seen the USA and I am no longer impressed.

Nailed it. As always.
This was helpful. Thank you for your thoughts. More importantly...happy birthday to your mom.
