Great point (as always) Dave. "Will this speech change everything? No. But we are desperate for leaders to remind us that this is all not OK, and more importantly, that people should have the guts to not sit by silently while it's happening".
I believe Sen Booker is echoing Jim Larkin, the Irish union organizer and rabble rouser, who said "The great only appear great because we are on our knees. Let us rise!"
Senator Booker: "But yet we are a nation of utter abundance. We are a nation of incredible wealth and resources. And we’ve proven in our past that that we are a nation of incredible vision. And that’s why I don’t understand why we are PLAYING SO SMALL. Why we have a president that is playing so small — who’s not coming here like presidents of the past and saying ‘we together.’ Reagan, Clinton, Obama: ’There’s a big challenge America. We, together, are going to get in a room and do sausage-making. Republicans and Democrats, and we’re going to find a way to write great legislation.’" 🇺🇸 More: https://tinyurl.com/4s3skyxk
I only caught the end of Senator Booker's speech, but it was amazing, as was his physical effort in doing it. Am I wrong, but didn't he call it the Declaration of INTERdependence? (which I thought was beautiful). I think that's what he said, as it was in the context of working together, but I'm seeing quotes that just say 'Independence.'
